Fake Interviews, Just as Good as the Real Thing

Over break I began watching the new Comedy Central show Broad City. Long story short, it’s a comedy about two women making it through life in the big apple.

One way that Comedy Central promoted the show was through fake interviews with the characters. While these are obviously rehearsed I found myself getting tips for real interviews out of it.

The character Ilana is in a stairwell, in comfortable clothes, and just talking. These setting that the interviewer puts her in allows her to not feel on the spot. Because of that Ilana is able to be herself and reveal some R-rated details about her life.

This can definitely help when performing real interviews. If you can get the interviewees to reveal the nitty gritty then you have hit gold. It’s better to have to much detail than not enough.
